Phew, the end of the book will not be that of the series

If like many you did not like the end of the Game Of Thrones series, know that the end of the books could be very different. And the author says so!

As crazy as it sounds, GoT author George RR Martin is still working on Winds of Winter even after more than 10 years. And if the man is tight-lipped about the plot tricks of his upcoming work, he readily admits that the next volume of A Song of Ice and Fire is moving away from the TV series.

RR Martin’s storyline on Game of Thrones

It is on his official blog that the author wanted to give some details on the future of GoT in his book version. He mentions in particular the logical distance with the HBO series, specifying that certain things from the show will not occur in the books. This also includes new characters, which the protagonists will meet.

A death list

The author clarifies in particular things about the death of the characters, here is what should disturb more than one or on the contrary put your heart in joy:

Not all characters who survived until the end of GAME OF THRONES will survive until the end of A SONG OF ICE & FIRE, and not all characters who died in GAME OF THRONES will die in A SONG OF ICE & FIRE. (Some will, of course. Maybe most. But certainly not all).

Some things will be the same. Many will not.

Martin also comes back to the expectation of the fans which is a burden for him:

I’m afraid a certain proportion of GoT fans are so angry at the time WINDS took me that they’re willing to hate the book, even without having read it. It saddens me, but I can’t do anything about it.

In short, while waiting for the House of the Dragon series on August 21, here is some news on GoT to get your teeth into.
