Phil Collins has struggled with health problems for many years. He gives an update shortly before his tour with Genesis.

Phil Collins (70) has had health problems for many years. Nevertheless, he will go on tour with Genesis and his colleagues Tony Banks (71) and Mike Rutherford (70) this year. Collins is ailing, like himself in an interview with the BBC explained. The 70-year-old could no longer play the drums. “I would like to, but I can barely hold a drumstick in my hand. There are various physical things that get in my way.”

14 years have passed since the British rock band’s last tour. Their “The Last Domino?” Tour takes Genesis through Europe in September and October, followed by North America in November and December. On the tour, Phil Collins will appear seated, his son Nicholas (20) will take over the drums for him.

Final farewell?

“I’m a little bit physically challenged, which is very frustrating because I love to play with my son,” says Phil Collins. The musician also hints at a final farewell to the stage: “We are all men of our age and to a certain extent I think that it will probably come to an end. I don’t know if I want to go on tour anymore.”

The Genesis singer is said to have been almost deaf in the left ear since 2002. As a result of a cervical vertebra operation in 2009, he also had symptoms of numbness in his hands. Another back operation in 2015 was followed by numbness in Collins’ left foot, which is why he walks with a cane. However, the musician has never let himself get down – not even when he fell severely and injured his head in 2017 due to his walking difficulties. Only a few days later he was back in front of the microphone in Cologne.
