The Spartacus project is getting a lot of attention these days, and not just among players. Same Phil Spencer, boss of the Xbox division, obviously has his opinion on the service that could bring together PS Plus and PS Now at Sony, with a view to creating a competitor to Xbox Game Pass. Interviewed about it at IGN, Spencer thinks it’s all inevitable.
A logical competition for Spencer
The arrival of a competing service to Xbox Game Pass does not seem to surprise Phil Spencer, who on the contrary thinks that it is in the natural order of things:
” I don’t want to say we have it all figured out, but I think the right answer is to allow your customers to play the games they want to play, where they want to play, and give them choice in how they build their game library. , and to be transparent with them about plans regarding the PC, cross-gen games as well as other things. So when I hear that others are going to do things like Game Pass or PC ports, that makes sense to me because I think that’s the right answer. »
If at first sight, P3 launches flowers by noting that its direct competitor intends to be inspired by the subscription flagship of Xbox, he specifies:
” I don’t really see it as validation. In fact, when I talk about it to our teams, I talk about it as a fatality. So for us, we have to continue to innovate, continue to be competitive, because the things that we do could be advantages that we have in the market today, but they are simply based on the fact that we have used them first, not that we created something no one else can create […] Because I think the right answer is to produce great games, port them to PC, port them to console, port them to the cloud, make them available day one in the subscription. And I expect our competitor to do that. »
We will still wait to see what Spartacus has in store for us, because for the moment, and unlike Game Pass, there is no question of making PlayStation exclusives available in the subscription as soon as they are released.
