MANILA (Reuters) – The Philippines’ Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a final appeal challenging the May 9 election of Ferdinand Marcos as president, local media reported, clearing the way for his inauguration on Thursday.

Ferdinand Marcos, who is 64 years old, is the son of the former dictator of the same name overthrown in 1986.

Activists had appealed to the Supreme Court to overturn the electoral commission’s rejection of their demands to disqualify Ferdinand Marcos ahead of the election for tax offences.

The Court did not immediately confirm this information and the details of its decision have not yet been published.
