Philips Hue will finally make its connected products compatible with the Matter protocol. The brand will also launch its first models of security cameras.
Finally ! After several months of delay, Philips Hue announces the compatibility of its connected devices with Matter, a protocol derived from ZigBee allowing communication between home automation objects and interoperability between different ecosystems.
Matter yes, HomeKit no
On the occasion of IFA 2023 in Berlin, Signify, the parent company of the manufacturer, announces that a software update will be deployed in September to all users in possession of a Philips Hue Bridge. Thanks to Matter support, users will be able to benefit from a simplified connection experience with other products and applications that also support this protocol.
Connected bulbs and other Philips Hue light devices will benefit from Matter compatibility, as will the brand’s new family of connected devices, which is launching in security cameras.
These also hit the market in September. Let’s break the abscess straight away: Philips Hue cameras do not support Apple HomeKit. Consumers must subscribe to the Philips Hue Secure Basic plan, which offers 30 days of video history, and costs $3.99 per month per camera.
Wired or wireless cameras
The cameras that will be marketed by Philips Hue film in 1080p definition and have a night vision mode. The live video stream and history are end-to-end encrypted. For added security, the human and animal recognition feature works at the camera level, not through the cloud.
The different models can be installed both indoors and outdoors. They will be available in a version with cable or in a wireless version on battery, in white and black colors.
Prices start at $199.99 and can go up to $249.99, while waiting for an even more high-end camera at $349.99, due in 2024. On the sidelines of IFA 2023, Philips Hue also announced sensors Contact and a new Security Center section within the app.
