Rich in announcements in the fields of TV
and audio, TP-Vision’s press conference gave a first glimpse of what’s new in Philips’ catalog for 2022.

The manufacturer has not yet discussed its Mini-LED catalog in detail, but we already know a lot more about the The One range as well as the OLED televisions that will be launched this year. New OLED.EX panel, IMAX Enhanced certification, NVIDIA G-Sync compatibility, redesigned Ambilight system… We summarize the main announcements to remember from this conference.

Philips OLED 807 and OLED707: what’s new for 2022?

Two new OLED ranges were presented this afternoon during a press conference where Kostas Vouzas, the CEO of TP-Vision, returned to a year 2021 ” exceptional » for the manufacturer and distributor of the Philips brand.

In particular, we learned that the OLED 807 series will integrate an OLED.EX panel, a new generation of panels that LG Display had already presented ahead of CES 2022. The benefits of this new panel are enticing on paper, as well summarized Danny Tack during his presentation: “ The OLED 807 will incorporate the latest OLED-EX panel which replaces hydrogen-based compounds in its construction with more efficient and stable deuterium to deliver a 30% increase in light output compared to a standard OLED panel. »

The OLED 807 also evolves on other points, first with the P5 AI processor of 6and generation that arrives with more smart “, in particular at the level of the light sensor. Its functionalities will allow, in SDR as in HDR, to adjust the image (brightness, gamma, colorimetry) in real time and according to the viewing conditions. We also learn the presence of the “AI Auto Film” mode which now extends its scope to 7 different image modes.

In addition, the Crystal Clear mode makes its appearance to replace the Vivid Mode. The objective of this mode is to obtain a more harmonious rendering, while retaining the colorimetric richness, contrast and sharpness of the Vivid mode. The ISF Day and ISF Night modes are replaced by the Expert 1 and Expert 2 modes, compatible with the Calman Home calibration solution.

The most important addition, however, is to be found on the side of certifications. Philips OLED TVs continue to support a full range of HDR formats, with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HDR10+ Adaptive or HLG. Now you can add to that the IMAX Enhanced certification for an experience ever closer to the filmmakers’ intentions.

We also note the appearance of a “Game Bar” for the game mode. As with LG or Samsung, this will allow quick access to image and sound settings, while offering optimized image modes for different types of games, a priori FPS, RTS and RPG. Two HDMI 2.1 ports will be included and will have a bandwidth of 48 Gb / s with VRR support over a range of 48 to 120 Hz. Finally, the OLED 807 will be accompanied by a 2.1 audio system d a power of 70 W.

For its part, the OLED 707 series will naturally be a less expensive range and will not use the OLED.EX panel. The other points of difference between the two ranges therefore lie in the design, the support, the remote control and the Ambilight, with a system on 4 sides in the first case and on only 3 in the second. Beside that, both ranges have similar features.

The OLED 807 will be available in 48, 55, 65 and 77 inches, while the OLED 707 series will be available in 48, 55 and 65 inches. Note that these two ranges will run on Android TV 11. Philips has apparently not yet opted for a shift to Google TV.

Philips The One: the LED TV that ticks all the boxes

Supposed to provide the maximum of features and technologies in a television at an attractive price, the The One range is back with the Philips PUS8807. This LED TV arrives with some interesting new features, namely the switch to a P5 AI processor from 5and generation and a 120 Hz 4K UHD panel. On the menu, there are two HDMI 2.1 ports (48 Gb / s) which support VRR and FreeSync Premium, and which display an input lag of only 9 ms.

Some features cited for the 807 and 707 OLEDs are also present, such as the Game Bar and an audio system capable of functioning as a center speaker, all compatible with DTS Play-Fi and Dolby Atmos technologies. The Ambilight is content to be positioned on three sides for The One series. Finally, there is multi-HDR support, but not IMAX Enhanced.

The Philips The One PUS8807 will be available in 43, 50, 55, 65 and 75 inches, but also, and for the first time, in a generous 86 inch diagonal.

New about Ambilight

Philips also made mention of a revamped Ambilight system for its 2022 TVs.

Few details were given to us, but we know that this one should be more precise than in the past thanks to a concept called “ One LED pixel “. Each LED in the Ambilight system can be managed individually, which will triple the number of areas where the effects of Ambilight are reflected, according to Philips. Enough to generate enthusiasm for an already unique ambient lighting system.

What Mini-LED TVs?

Mini-LED TVs were not mentioned much during this conference. We know, however, that they will appear in the Philips catalog for 2022. An additional diagonal should be presented, which will give an additional choice compared to the two previous series which were satisfied with diagonals of 65 and 75 inches.

Price and availability

The prices and availability of these new televisions have not yet been communicated. There is a good chance that these products will be released during the second quarter, we will let you know as soon as we know more.
