Philips: settlement of a dispute in the USA

(CercleFinance.com) – A subsidiary of Philips has agreed to pay 24 million dollars in exchange for the abandonment of proceedings concerning the payment of illicit commissions in the United States, announced the Department of Justice.

By paying bribes to medical equipment distributors to obtain patient referrals, Philips RS North America, formerly Respironics, corrupted federal health insurance systems such as Medicare and Medicaid by betraying patient needs, says the US government.

According to the DoJ statement, Respironics led distributors to submit claims for ventilators, oxygen concentrators and other respiratory protection devices that were ‘fakes’ in that the company paid illegal commissions to these same suppliers.
