Information still fragmentary about the processor that AMD announced just a few days ago.
On the occasion of its Financial Analyst Day 2022, AMD presented its processor roadmap last weekend. There was of course a question of the Zen 4 architecture and, more particularly, of Phoenix Point.
A maximum of 8 cores / 16 threads
Combining Zen 4 for the CPU part and RDNA 3 for the GPU part, this chip is above all designed for laptops. If many questions still arise, our colleagues from Videocardz obtained some additional details.
They actually caught wind of what is called a engineering sample or engineering sample in good French. The chip in question is not based on the AM5 socket like Zen 4 desktop processors, but on the FP8 socket, reserved for mobile solutions.
We also learn that, in what looks set to be its strongest variant, Phoenix Point would feature 8 hearts / 16 threads while the desktop versions (code name Raphael) will be able to reach double, i.e. 16 cores / 32 threads.
At this time, AMD did not wish to comment on this information, nor does it provide any specifics on the release window for these Phoenix Point chips. Rumors point to a launch in the first quarter of 2023 knowing that Zen 4 and RDNA 3 should be released at the end of 2022.
