Phone (2a): Nothing confirms the imminent launch of the mid-range smartphone

The announcement comes as no surprise, as information leaks, particularly from international certification bodies, have revealed its existence. However, Nothing is taking matters in hand today and formalizing the upcoming presentation of its third smartphone, confirming in passing that it will take the name Phone (2a). This will not be the only device of the year for Nothing – which already has a watch and a pair of true wireless headphones in its catalog via its derivative brand CMF – its founder, Carl Pei, having specified that it was the “first product” of a “exciting roadmap for 2024”. Although the businessman does not indicate the date of presentation of this device, contenting himself with a “coming soon”it should be remembered that Nothing plans an announcement on February 27 as part of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

About the smartphone in question, Nothing reveals anything more, but a new leak of information gleaned by My Smart Price adds to previous elements already available; the site noted that the TÜV certification body mentioned (under the code name A142), the compatibility of the Phone (2a) with charging at 45 W, which would place it in line with the Phone (2) currently available . It would therefore not be a question of entering into a race for records, but rather of offering a terminal with a careful quality/price ratio. We are indeed talking about an introductory price below €400, despite the integration of a 6.7-inch Amoled screen, a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip, at least 8 GB of RAM, and two photo modules of 50 Mpx each. A set that would also place it against the very recent Redmi Note 13 Pro+ from Xiaomi.

The smartphone should also run under Nothing OS, accompanying Android 14. We expect no less, to the extent that the Phone (1), marketed in the summer of 2022, has benefited from the stable version of the system since January 31 operating, after a quarter of beta, and closely following the most recent Phone (2).
