The second quarter of 2022 is behind us and, as usual, we come back to the various firmware updates for photo cameras (reflex, compact or hybrid) that you may have missed over the past three months.
If the second quarter of 2022 was not generous in terms of the launches of new photo cameras, those already present on the market have, on the other hand, received a good number of updates. In this article, we come back to the different updates deployed by the manufacturers, with of course the links allowing them to be downloaded.
cannon
After a first quarter well supplied with updates, the company with the red border eased its foot a little between April and June 2022 and only updated the video-oriented hybrid EOS R5 C, optimizing the autofocus and the subject tracking, as well as the EOS M50 Mark II, by fixing various bugs.
Nikon
Nikon continues to update its most recent hybrids, as well as its latest SLRs. In addition to improvements and compatibility additions on the Z7 II and Z6 II, the D6 and D780 SLRs have also received a few minor updates. The biggest concerns the Z9. Already in mid-April, Nikon had unlocked 8K RAW internally, ProRES Raw, N-Raw and 120 fps for its viewfinder. A more recent update improves sensor stabilization, improves AF and adds an advanced flicker reduction mode, a feature that the Z9 lacked and could cause problems for indoor photos.
sony
Sony has only updated two devices in the past three months: the Alpha 7S III (A7S III) and the Alpha 1 (A1). The A7S III special video hybrid has seen its AF improved, and can now record proxies during remote connections with a computer, while the customization of white balance has been tweaked. We devoted an article to the Alpha 1 update. This allows it to record in 8K and 4:2:2 10 bits internally; for photography, you can adjust the size of lossless compressed RAW files (L – 50 Mpx, M – 21 Mpx and S – 12 Mpx).
Fuji film
Fujifilm has dreamed big and updated virtually all of its bodies. However, no big updatesit is mainly about fixing various bugs and improving the general stability of devices, such as the GFX 100S or the X-T4.
panasonic
At Panasonic, in addition to the substantial update concerning the Lumix GH6, which we had already dealt with, bringing 5.8K Raw externally and 4K ProRes 4:2:2 internally, the other camera updates are only corrections minor bugs of all kinds.
Olympus / OM System
OM System took advantage of the spring of 2022 to update its latest flagship, the OM-1, twice. The first update (version 1.1) improved the general performance of the device and the second, 1.2, slightly modified the behavior of continuous autofocus and stabilization during video recording.
Leica
During the past quarter, Leica updated its two mirrorless 24×36 cameras, the SL2 and SL2-S. The latter recovering some interesting options such as 4K DCI at 60p via the HDMI port, as well as recording in 12-bit RAW format.
Sigma
After the fp L last quarter, it’s the turn of the fp to know a small update adding some additional functions and control options.
Pentax / Ricoh
At Pentax, both flagship cameras, the K-1 Mark II and K-3 Mark III, received stability updates over the past quarter.
