16 years of competition and 416,000 shots for 2023

In addition to the various categories (wildlife, still life, portfolio, etc.), among professionals, the prize for photographer of the year was awarded to Edgar Martins. This 46-year-old Portuguese already enjoys a solid reputation. He was awarded for his series Our Warin tribute to his friend, the photojournalist Anton Hammerl, kidnapped and murdered by militias during the Libyan civil war in 2011.

He leaves with the sum of $25,000 (about €23,000) and a batch of Sony photo equipment. The very first prize for sustainable development was awarded to the Italian Alessandro Cinque. Finally, among amateurs (open), Mexican Dinorah Graue Obscura wins the trophy.

The Sony World Photography Awards exhibition runs at Somerset House in London between April 14 and May 1, 2023. Visitors will find over 200 prints from the participating photos.
