Photo Mystery # 74 The town hall of Saint-Symphorien

No doubt, the engraved pediment clearly indicates the function of the building. Symmetrical, imposing, this communal house is located in the heart of the village of Saint-Symphorien, in the Gironde. Cream-colored, for smoothness, inlaid with floral motifs in glass paste, its facade is attractive. Its light reliefs as well as a Romanesque portal invite to discover the interior, which has a foyer, a village hall, a balcony and two galleries.

Built in the 1930s, the building was renovated in 2011. It was then a question of rehabilitating the village hall to improve thermal comfort. But the interior frescoes that adorn the walls of the ground floor have also been highlighted, by a leveling play of light. And the guardrail of the mezzanine has been dressed in acoustic panels, to improve user comfort and provide playful tips of color.

This very special communal house is one of the 1,200 images that the tandem of artists Eric Tabuchi and Nelly Monnier brought back from their tour, when they left in 2017 to travel and photograph France – all of France – in its smallest. nooks and crannies, as a recent article in the World.
