Photos and Videos – That was the Golden Roof Challenge in Innsbruck

The pole vault and long jump event, the Golden Roof Challenge, took place in the heart of Innsbruck for the 19th time. For the first time ever, this event is included in the International Athletics Federation IAAF’s WACT (World Athletics Continental Tour). This allows the invited top athletes to collect important world ranking points for qualifying for the 2023 World Championships and the 2024 Olympic Games next year.

Twenty-two top athletes from four continents competed for a place on the podium. Markus Rehm was able to secure his sixth victory in a row with a first incredible jump of 8.50 meters. The American team dominated in the men’s pole vault, with Clayton Fritsch winning with a height of 5.71 m and finishing ahead of Matt Ludwig , who jumped a height of 5.61 m. Third place went to Luke Winder, who cleared 5.61m in the second attempt. In the women’s pole vault, the winner was decided on the number of failed attempts, as the top three competitors all jumped the same height of 4.11m . Italy’s Giulia Valletti Borgnini took the win, followed by Yana Hladiychuk (UKR) and Sonia Malavisi (ITA). In the men’s long jump, Paralympic world record holder Markus Rehm (GER) shocked the competition in his first attempt and sailed with a winning distance of 8.50 meters. In doing so, he surpassed 2019 world champion Tajay Gayle of Jamaica, who reached 8.05 meters, followed by Isaac Grimes of the USA with 7.79 meters. In the women’s long jump, first place goes to Agate De Sousa (STP) with one Jump of 6.70 meters. Nigeria’s Ese Brume came very close at 6.67 meters but failed to match De Sousa’s distance. The bronze medal goes to the American Quanesha Burks, who jumped 6.63 meters.
