NEW YORK (Reuters) – The painting “Woman with a Watch”, painted by Pablo Picasso in 1932, sold at auction on Wednesday for $139 million (129 million euros) in New York.
The painting, offered at auction as part of the sale of the collection of American philanthropist Emily Fisher Landau, who died in March, was estimated by Sotheby’s at $120 million.

“Woman with a Watch”, which depicts one of Pablo Picasso’s companions, the French painter Marie-Thérèse Walter, becomes the artist’s second most expensive painting; the painting “Women of Algiers (Version ‘O’)” having sold at auction for $179.3 million in 2015.
