Among all the exciting weather phenomena, the winter landscape with snow and ice has prevailed. We congratulate Lars Fuchs on the great reception from Steinhausen/ZG.

January 9th: Spectacular halo phenomenon in Glarnerland due to fine ice particles in the air. In this photo you can even see 8 different types of halos at the same time. In particular, the arch in the rainbow colors on the right, the so-called infralateral arch, is very rare and can only be observed about once a year.

January 15th: Wild looking clouds in the morning sky over the Bernese Oberland. The air current is deflected in waves over the mountains. This dynamic can be admired as so-called lens clouds (lenticularis).

January 22nd: Impressive sea smoke over Lake Thun on the coldest morning of this winter season. The -13 degree cold air flowed from Thun over the “warm” water surface. The evaporating water vapor becomes visible in the icy air as a smoky mist.

January 28th: The sea of fog pushes as a fall of fog at dawn from the Mittelland into northwestern Switzerland. As it descends, the air becomes warmer and the fog dissipates.

January 30th: A so-called hole-punch cloud appeared in the sky over central Switzerland. When a plane flies through cloud cover, the moisture in the cloud layer falls down in the form of fine ice crystals and a hole forms.
