Cut female bodies in the fight against violent crime
November 25th is the international day for the elimination of violence against women, which the Austrian photo artist A. Lui Gmeiner used to make a loud statement. With his photo series “Cutted Girls”, which was recently awarded the Photo Prize in Innsbruck, he draws attention to the dangers that women all over the world are exposed to on a daily basis. The slogan “Do not hurt me! I am your wife, mother, daughter, sister, …” is intended to make it clear that domestic violence or crimes in particular occur in secret within the family and therefore urgently need to be addressed. Various media companies (Time, Vogue, Die Zeit, Spiegel, Bild, Stern etc.) went along with them and printed the works of art of the cut women’s bodies on their covers in order to create awareness of such violent acts.
