The fashion world mourns the loss of Pierre Cardin (1922-2020). The French fashion designer with Italian roots has died at the age of 98. The French learned society Académie des Beaux-Arts, of which Cardin had been a member of the Section of Free Members since 1992, confirmed the loss via Twitter. Cardin was considered a pioneer of the prêt-à-porter and shaped the fashion scene with his avant-garde style.

In 1947 Cardin was still working as a tailor for Christian Dior. Three years later he founded his first own haute couture company in Paris. His second fashion house, founded in 1957, focused exclusively on men's fashion. In addition to Paco Rabanne (86) and André Courrèges (1923-2016), Cardin is still considered the inventor of futuristic fashion today. Even the Beatles ("20 Greatest Hits") were able to convince themselves of the skills of the French fashion designer and wore his designs.
