The court has rendered its decision. The detention of Pierre Palmade is definitely lifted, the 54-year-old comedian remains under judicial control and cannot leave the hospital.
Pierre Palmade is not returning, for the moment, to prison. The investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal rendered its decision after a closed-door hearing which took place on Friday March 10. The latter had been seized by the Melun public prosecutor’s office, which challenged the decision of the investigating judge to lift the pre-trial detention and release Pierre Palmade, under judicial supervision, for medical reasons. Recall that Pierre Palmade had suffered a stroke on February 25. The investigating chamber of the Paris Court of Appeal therefore decided that Pierre Palmade would not return to pre-trial detention but that he would remain in hospital, under judicial supervision.
A press release from the Attorney General of Paris explains that the investigating chamber “retained that the state of health of Pierre Palmade was not not incompatible with continued detention” and that she “considered, however, that the development of this state of health reduced the risks on which the decision to place him in pre-trial detention was based. Therefore, she confirmed the placement under judicial control of Pierre Palmadeadding in particular a ban on leaving the hospital where he is being cared for.”
