Pierre Palmade (They love each other…well, almost): “You can consider me on everything!”

25 years later They love each other, a show co-written with Muriel Robin, Pierre Palmade plays in They love each other…well, almost. An adaptation of their cult trilogy to see this April 18 at 9:10 p.m. on TF1.

How does one pass from the status of author-performer to that of an actor, period?

PIERRE PALMADE: The production asked Muriel and me for permission to adapt our sketches. I knew the authors Agnes Boury and Thomas Maurion, in charge of adaptation, and we have total confidence in them. With all these virtuoso actors, it seemed impossible to miss the trick.

The texts also have something to do with it, don’t they?

All this is more than flattering! It’s very weird to hear Audrey Fleurot Where Carole Bouquet say that our texts are cult. For me, worship is Raymond Devos.

After all these years, maybe it’s time to consider this reality: you are a cult, Pierre!

You are referring to my 54 years! (He laughs.) I hear it, but I’ve been so used to having only masters and being the student, that becoming the benchmark is really strange.

By interpreting them with other actors – in this case, for you, Carole Bouquet – have you rediscovered your sketches?

Completely ! Besides, I didn’t choose Carol by chance because we share the same irony. Following the Large Restaurant (entertainment for M6, editor’s note), we became very good friends. She’s awesome, rock’n’roll! I, who am not used to making films and playing with great actors, was extremely honored to play with her.

Why not consider going on stage with her?

I already take her on quite a few of my adventures, but I would love to see her in a boulevard play! In her culture, it’s unthinkable, but for me, Carole is a comic actress. When she was at the Conservatory, in secret, she went to see Jacqueline Maillan. She is beautiful, OK, but above all she is funny!

Now that we are attached to these couples, would you feel like writing the rest of their adventures?

Careful, don’t provoke me! I’ll think about it.

Among the guests of this evening, we find Jean-Pierre Pernaut…

It’s true. I had nothing to do with it, but I can’t wait to see how he did.

After examining it, scanning it and being inspired by it, what is your definition of a couple?

The most beautiful of friendships. The one who resists passion. We can be in a relationship without being in love anymore. Being in a relationship means living with the person who knows you best.

Can we apply this definition to your relationship with Muriel Robin?

With Muriel, we are more like brother and sister. We laugh so much at the same things, we recognized each other! I who have felt alone all my life, I was a little less so the day I came across Muriel Robin. Our meeting changed our lives.

Can we consider seeing you play together again?

I have lots of ideas, you can consider me on everything!
