Pigs “liberated” – animal rights activists are targeted after the action

An action by the Verein gegen Tierfabriken (VGT) at a pig fattening operation in the Mattersburg district in August caused a sensation. At that time, the activists “liberated” animals from the farm. This is why they are now being targeted by the police.

With the action, the association wanted to draw attention to alleged grievances in the company. The occasion was video material that shows how a piglet is brutally killed. After a complaint there was an investigation, but the case has been set, according to the prosecutor.

“Liberation” action
In the course of the campaign, VGT members took two piglets out of the barn and brought them to a fenced-in area outdoors. According to the activists, the operator then gave them the animals as a gift, but took the donation back. The pigs were finally removed again.

Now the activists are being investigated because the “liberation” of the piglets is seen as cruelty to animals. VGT chairman Martin Balluch was summoned to the police.
