Pilot test starts – security service controls alcohol ban in Bruck

After complaints about noise and vandalism had accumulated in Bruck an der Mur – especially in Mittergasse – the local council decided to ban alcohol in some squares and streets. Now the next step: this ban is monitored by a security service – at least once for two months.

The alcohol ban passed by the municipal council at the end of September includes Koloman-Wallisch-Platz, Mittergasse, Herzog-Ernst-Gasse, Roseggerstraße and Minoritenplatz as well as all publicly accessible children’s playgrounds owned by the city (smoking is also prohibited there). The FPÖ also called for a guard duty – this is actually coming.

The city council decided that this work would be carried out by the ÖWD (Austrian Guard Service Security GmbH) in the future. The pilot test is initially planned for two months. The ÖWD will inspect from Monday to Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (on playgrounds) and Thursday to Saturday from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. (public places) with two security employees per day and shift. The cost is 11,400 euros per month.

Additional cleaning in the “party mile”
“We have dealt intensively with this topic and want to take further steps here to ensure safety and cleanliness throughout the city,” says Mayor Peter Koch. In addition to the cleaning work carried out by the city, an external company was hired a few weeks ago to carry out further cleaning tours, especially in the Mittergasse area. Koch: “Especially on weekends, we pay more attention to cleanliness so that the surrounding business owners can find clean open spaces in front of their shops.”
