Pimples on the tongue are really annoying. How do they come about and what can you do about the blisters? We explain it to you.

Everyone knows pimples on the face, but pimples or pustules can also form on our tongues. These appear in the form of small vesicles, so-called aphthous ulcers, and visibly settle as small white dots, especially on the tip of the tongue. Especially when eating or in contact with acidic foods, alveoli become extremely painful.

Pimples on the tongue: causes

Anyone who thinks that aphthae on the tongue such as pimples and pustules on the face are caused by clogged sebum glands is wrong. The causes of the painful alveolar sacs are diverse:

  • One reason for canker sores can be poor oral hygiene be. Bacteria can settle in the mouth and promote pimples. So if you brush your teeth too seldom or suffer from tooth decay, you have to reckon with unpleasant tongue vesicles.
  • Another cause of pimples on the tongue is one wrong diet and indicates a vitamin and mineral deficiency (vitamin B12, iron or folic acid). But also highly acidic foods can lead to canker sores on the tongue.

You can do this for pimples on the tongue

What you should definitely not do is squeeze the alveoli. We have put together six effective tips and home remedies for fighting aphthae:

  1. Herbal teas: How about a cup of tea? Herbal teas such as chamomile, sage or thyme in particular have an antibacterial effect, prevent inflammation and thus aphthae on the tongue and also have a calming effect. Alternatively, you can dip a cotton swab in tea and use it to dab the inflamed area in the mouth.
  2. Herbal oils: Other home remedies for canker sores on the tongue are sage, clove or St. John's wort oil and sage leaves. It is important that it is an oil that does not contain acid.
  3. Mouthwashes: Mouthwashes also help against pimples on the tongue. Salt water, for example, disinfects the mouth and kills bacteria. To do this, dissolve half a teaspoon of table salt in 250 milliliters of water and use it to rinse your mouth several times a day.
  4. Blueberries: Chewing blueberries is also good. The small, dark blue berries contain tannins that have anti-inflammatory effects on blisters.
  5. Cool: Do you have particularly acute pain? Then you should suck an ice cube or milk ice cream. Even a glass of milk sipped in sips can provide quick relief from alveolar sacs.
  6. Anoint: You have already tried all home remedies, but the aphthous ulcers just don't want to go away, but, even worse, they burst and become infected? Then you should go to the doctor quickly. The doctor can then examine exactly what is causing the inflammation in the mouth and prescribe an ointment to target the pimples on the tongue.

This can help prevent pimples on the tongue

To prevent pimples on the tongue from appearing in the first place, you should take the following tips to heart:

  • A thorough teeth cleaning is the most important thing to prevent aphthae. It is best to brush your teeth after eating and use a toothbrush to clean your tongue.
  • Renounce sugary drinks and foods like lemonade, cola or chocolate, to give bacteria in your mouth no chance in the first place.
  • Are you feeling battered? Strengthen your immune system with vitamin C. (Black currant, sea buckthorn) or vitamin B6 (bananas, avocado, broccoli, spinach) to protect you from inflammation in the mouth.
