After Oscars already loaded with statuettesNetflix is certainly not leaving Bafta empty-handed.

The English ceremony particularly appreciated the film All Quiet on the Western Front.

Netflix on the front line

The British Academy of Television and Film Arts held its EE BAFTA ceremony yesterday, 2023 edition. It was an opportunity to reward the best films of the past year. The least we can say is that a clear winner emerges: Netflix. Or, to be exact, the war movie All Quiet on the Western Front (In the west, nothing is new in VF).

The feature film won no less than seven awards, including best film, director (Edward Berger), music, photography and adapted screenplay. But this is not the only victory for Netflix, also awarded in the category of best animated film for the Pinocchio by Guillermo del Toro. He prevails in particular against the Puss in Boots 2 And Red alert from Disney. Finally, actress Emma Mackey (Sex Education) was selected as the top rising star by the academy.

The Banshees of Inisherin also honored

Fortunately for English cinema, the solid feature film The Banshees of Inisherin has not been forgotten. This one leaves with the statuette of best English film and best original screenplay, and Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon are very justly rewarded for their respective supporting roles.

Elvis was rewarded mainly for its casting and its main actor (Austin Butler), but also its costumes and its make-up. Same thing for Tar (Cate Blanchett). However, there must be disappointments in only leaving with a reward for Avatar: The Way of the Water (best special effects), babylon (best design production) and Everything Everywhere All At Once (best edition).

The complete list of winners is available on the Bafta website. See you later in the year for the playoffs!
