Pinocchio: Will Tom Hanks play the geppetto?

Disney's classic cartoon "Pinocchio" gets a live action remake. One of the main characters, Geppetto, is said to play Tom Hanks.

After "Aladdin" (2019) or "The Lion King" (2019), another classic from Disney is to get a new live action edition. For the remake of "Pinocchio" (1940), which has been in planning for some time, the first leading actor now seems to have been found. Hollywood megastar Tom Hanks (64) is in early negotiations for the role of wood carver Geppetto, according to the US industry magazine "Deadline".

Requested years ago

Already in October 2019, "Variety" reported that Robert Zemeckis (68) should direct the project. Hanks has now allegedly let Zemeckis know that after reading the script he was actually interested in taking on the role. According to "Deadline", Disney asked the actor for the first time years ago, when the British screenwriter and director Paul King (born 1978) was still responsible for a "Pinocchio" remake.

It would be a reunion for Zemeckis and Hanks, since the two have already worked together several times – on the modern Hollywood classics "Forrest Gump" (1994) and "Cast Away – Verschollen" (2000) and on "Der Polarexpress" (2004). "Pinocchio" would be the fourth joint film between the two.
