Pirates of the Caribbean 6 revived with Johnny Depp? Disney responds

In an interview with The New York Times, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, said he has an exciting story for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6”

Is a sixth installment to the Pirates of the Caribbean saga possible? After Salazar’s Revenge released in 2017 and grossed $795 million worldwide, fans were eagerly awaiting the sequel.

But the trial between Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard, and the behavior of the actor on the set of the last opus have cooled Disney, which nevertheless planned spin-offs.

Pirates of the Caribbean 5: delays, alcohol … An unmanageable Johnny Depp on the set

If last November, Margot Robbie, announced in the casting of a female Pirates of the Caribbean for several years, declared that the project was abandoned, the historical producer Jerry Bruckheimer was not so categorical since he affirmed to variety that the project had simply been shelved in favor of another film.

I think that scenario will come back to the fore at some point. We developed two different stories for ‘Pirates’ and the other moves faster, so that’s the one we prefer.”

An “exciting story” for Pirates of the Caribbean 6

Today, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, told the New York Times : “We think we have a very good story. An exciting story, which pays homage to previous films, but which also has something new to contribute.

It is unknown if this story will be linked to the duo formed by Kaya Scodelario and Brenton Thwaites in the fifth installment or to other characters.

Launched in 2003, the saga inspired by the Disneyland park attraction has grossed $4.5 billion worldwide. And the embodiment of Johnny Depp, who plays Captain Jack Sparrow, has something to do with it. The magazine therefore asked the CEO of the cinema branch of the studio with big ears if a return of the actor was possible.

“For the moment, there is no commitment”, Mr. Bailey said. A rather ambiguous answer which echoes that of Jerry Bruckheimer who affirmed to variety last year : “There is no question of a return of Johnny Depp for the moment. However, the future of the saga is still under study, nothing is decided.

The actor recently made his big comeback to the cinema thanks to Maïwenn’s film, Jeanne du Barry, presented at the opening of the last Cannes Film Festival.
