Pirates of the Caribbean: Johnny Depp back in the next film in the saga?

The saga Pirates of the Caribbean has not yet sunk. On the contrary, Jerry Bruckheimer is still at the helm of this ship and intends to get it back to sea. Because in addition to the reboot of this maritime adventure franchise launched in 2003, the Hollywood producer hopes that another film, with Margot Robbie in the lead, will also see the light of day.

Margot Robbie as a pirate?

Last March, we learned that Pirates of the Caribbean 6 would be a reboot and that the other project of the franchise with Margot Robbie starring (barbie) was on the sidelines. But as Bruckheimer explained on the microphone ofEntertainment Weeklythe latter perhaps still has a chance of heading towards cinemas.

"They’re two different films," Bruckheimer said. “We hope to be able to do both, and I think Disney would also like to do the one with Margot.”

This spin-off of the franchise was written by Christina Hodson (Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Story of Harley Quinn) but we don’t know exactly what its plot is about, apart from the fact that it would have a more feminine approach to the world of buccaneers.

A reboot ready to cast off

The reboot of Pirates of the Caribbeanon the other hand, now officially has a screenwriter in the person of Jeff Nathanson (Mufasa: the lion king). A first draft of the film was written by Craig Mazin (The Last of Us) and Ted Elliott (the first four opuses Pirates of the Caribbean), and it is unclear whether Nathanson’s script is a different version of their script, or whether it is a completely new approach.

Bruckheimer, however, emphasized that Nathanson came to terms with the film’s conclusion: “We still need to refine the first and second parts, but he wrote a really great third act.”

As this new part is a reboot, we should not see the original characters of the saga, including Captain Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp, even if Bruckheimer confided that he would like to see the actor put on the wig of the famous pirate:

“It’s a reboot, but if it were up to me, he would be in the movie. I love Johnny Depp, he’s a dear friend and a great artist. He created Captain Jack. He doesn’t wasn’t like that in the script, it was him who made it a mix of Pépé le Putois and Keith Richards. It was his interpretation of Jack Sparrow.

As a reminder, the film franchise Pirates of the Caribbean is an adaptation of the Disney Parks attraction of the same name. Since the first film in 2003, the saga has generated no less than $4.5 billion at the global box office.

Whatever happens, all that remains is to find a director and a cast for the reboot… and the franchise can set sail again. Until then, the five films in the saga can be seen or rewatched on the Disney+ streaming platform.
