Piste Noire: “Our technicians were fainting because it was so cold on set”, explains Thibault de Montalembert

Monday January 30, France 2 offers the continuation of its new police mini-series “Piste noire” from 9:10 p.m. Thibault de Montalembert (“Ten percent”) plays one of the main roles with Constance Labbé. For AlloCiné, the actor recounts this experience.

Return to altitude this Monday, January 30, 2023 with the broadcast of the sequel to Piste Noire on France 2, from 9:10 p.m. Here, viewers will therefore find Constance Labbé (Balthazar) and Thibault de Montalembert in the shoes of a duo of investigators explosive in the high mountains…

For AlloCiné, the interpreter of Mathias Barneville in Ten percent looks back on this professional experience which sometimes turned out to be chilling for some…

AlloCiné: Why did you want to participate in “Piste Noire”?

Thibault de Montalembert: We are not going to hide it, the scenario is very classic. There was nothing extraordinary in that, but I met our director, Fred Grivois, who is Canadian by origin. He learned his trade there and in the United States. The fact that he is not French can be seen in the result.

I was interested in doing something that I had never done with my character. Servoz took me far enough compared to what we are used to seeing of me. It has become denser and more human than in writing.

How would you describe it?

Servoz is a country boy. He had a son who died, it is not known if he divorced his wife or if she died too. Losing her child has in any case shattered her life. He is also a recovering alcoholic.

When we send him this young policeman expert in crime, with a rather heavy history, they will form a rather surprising duo. It’s someone who is in no more hurry than that… They are very distant from each other but a respect is established little by little, even friendship.

How is the dynamic of this explosive tandem different from other “dog and cat” duos presented in other detective series?

Already, I am a man and she is a woman. Emilie could be Servoz’s daughter and she is his superior. It doesn’t pose a problem for him, but there is sometimes a generational friction. She is attracted to women, which is not a problem for Servoz either. We feel two very different worlds.

She lives with social networks. It challenges the great ideals and patterns of Western society. He’s an old-timer, basically quite anarchist because he doesn’t give a fuck about anything! Gradually, something nice is born between them.

It is true that Servoz always keeps his sense of humor in all circumstances…

Very differently, the humor side is something that Mathias Barneville, my character in Ten Percent, has as well. I love playing that and hopefully I can develop it a bit more.

You appear with an incredible look in “Piste Noire”. Is making up important to you in order to create your characters?

I have always done it and more and more. I come from the theater and there is more to that side than on TV or in the cinema. I really like to transform myself, lots of actors never change from one role to another. It’s a way of working but for me, it amuses me to lose the spectator. Some would say that is not a good calculation! (laughs) I don’t care, I’m interested in having fun and finding my pleasure.

Shooting in the mountains, in the cold and the snow, was it difficult?

For the team, it was very difficult. I must say that we actors are very protected. There were extremely cold days at altitude. Our technicians fainted because it was so cold on set in Haute-Savoie.

The comedian Pierre-Yves Bonwho plays a ski champion, has he himself descended the slopes?

He is a very athletic person. He did some of what you can see in the show, which was the least spectacular let’s say. For the rest, we used a double.

How did your collaboration with Constance Labbé go?

We didn’t know each other and it went very, very well between us. I know that there are actors who like the confrontation with their partner and who find their inspiration there. Me, not at all and Constance either. She is charming, in addition to being a very good actress.

Where is the sequel to “Ten percent”?

I don’t think there will be a fifth season. On the other hand, a film is being written. When will he turn? I do not know. In any case, it’s on track and a priori I’ll be there.

Do you keep in touch with your former partners?

We talk on the phone but we are all very busy with each other. The series has boosted our careers. Laure Calamy can’t stop filming, Camille Cottin is constantly stuck in Hollywood, Nicolas Maury is releasing his first album, Grégory Montel will be at the theater soon…
