Pity for Lewandowski: Haaland finds FC Bayern “disrespectful”

Haaland finds FC Bayern “disrespectful”

The transfer discussions start well before the end of the season. In the Bundesliga, tugging at the star strikers is the dominant theme. Erling Haaland is in demand, also at FC Bayern. This annoys Robert Lewandowski in the long term – which the Norwegian can understand.

Star striker Erling Haaland was almost a bit embarrassed by Bayern Munich’s interest – because of Robert Lewandowski. “If I put myself in Lewandowski’s shoes – I don’t know how many goals he’s scored for this club and how many titles he’s won – you feel sorry for him. Really. I find it (to him) disrespectful,” said Haaland in the TV documentary “Haaland – Valget” (The Choice) by Viaplay.

The statement comes from February, when the then Dortmunder had not yet made the choice for his new club. Bayern’s sports director Hasan Salihamidzic only confirmed this week that they were interested in spring. “We were in talks there, but it turned out that it might not work that way for both sides,” he said on Sky.

Probably all top European clubs would have liked to take the striker. Finally, in June, it was announced that the Norwegian would start scoring for Manchester City in the new season.

To make his decision, the Norwegian used a points system to rate each prospective customer. He asked himself questions like: “Does the possible new club already have a strong nine?” Bayern had Lewandowski – and despite Haaland’s criticism, according to his father Alf-Inge, were in second place on the list of favorites in the spring – behind City, where the 22-year-old is now playing.

ManCity paid BVB a good 70 million euros – due to a fixed transfer fee, it was relatively cheap. In just five games, he has already scored nine goals this season. The Norwegian broke the record set by City legend Sergio Agüero, who has eight goals after five games. FC Bayern meanwhile “comforted” themselves with the commitment of Sadio Mané, Lewandowski let them move to FC Barcelona after weeks of quarrels.
