Pitztal Glacier – Crossing the ridge with ski boots: holidaymaker fell

Four young men from Germany sought adventure in the open ski area on Monday on the Pitztal Glacier in Tyrol. With their ski boots they wanted to cross a ridge at more than 3,100 meters above sea level. A 24-year-old slipped and fell.

The accident occurred around midday. The four Germans, aged between 23 and 25, wanted to climb over the mountain ridge to ski down the other side in the open ski area. To do this, they took off their skis, left the piste and climbed over a ridge with their ski boots. 30 meters over rocky terrain. This is what happened: The 24-year-old slipped and fell around 30 meters over steep and rocky terrain. The young man was left lying in the snow, seriously injured. His companions went to him and provided first aid. The alerted emergency services rescued the injured man from an emergency helicopter using rope and took him to Zams Hospital.
