Pixar Animation Studios presents "Out", a short film starring their very first gay main character, Greg. The film is already available on Disney +!

Pixar has just unveiled its new short film entitled "Out", available since Friday May 21 on Disney +. The film features Greg, the very first gay character in animation studios. The young man is preparing to move into town with his boyfriend, Manuel. The hero is then faced with the difficulty of admitting his homosexuality to his parents, when the latter pay him a surprise visit to help him prepare for his move. Then follows a series of dramatic events but nevertheless, "With the help of his precocious puppy, and a little magic, Greg could learn that he has nothing to hide."

The 9-minute short film is one of the seven films in the program SparkShorts from the studio which, according to the president of Pixar, Jim Morris, aims to "discover new storytellers, explore new storytelling techniques and experiment with new workflows. "" These films are unlike anything we have done at Pixar, offering an opportunity to unleash the potential of individual artists and their cinematic approaches. inventive on a smaller scale than our normal rate. "added Jim Morris. It would seem that this very promising bet is on the road to success. For now, the 45-second teaser, mainly focused on "Out", elicited positive reactions.

Movies Pixar, especially the franchise Toy Story, have already featured gay characters. The film Forward presents for example a lesbian cyclops policewoman, named Specter, while in Toy Story 4, you can see two women taking care of a child. However, this is the first time that a same-sex couple has been at the heart of a story.

As for Disney, the famous company aired an episode of its series Disney channel, Andi Mack, centered on a character posing as being gay. However, it seems that these initiatives are too few. The American company was hit by the GLADD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, because of the eleven films produced in 2015, none of them featured LGBTQ characters.
