Five minutes difference for a full charge between the 25 W charger and the 45 W one.

Samsung presented its Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra a fortnight ago. As a reminder, these three smartphones carry batteries with respective capacities of 3,700 mAh, 4,500 mAh and
5000mAh. In terms of charging, the maximum power is 25 W wired. However, the S22+ and S22 Ultra allow fast charging at 45 W (via a charger not supplied). Alas, in practice, as with the Google Pixel 6, whose 30 W fast charge is a myth, the 45 W charge of the Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Ultra does not add much.

Three chargers compared

This is shown by the measurements made by GSMArena. One of the site’s reporters noted the charging times of the new S22+ and S22 Ultra using three different chargers: Samsung’s original 25W and 45W models as well as a third-party 65W charger. first two are stamped PD (Power Delivery) and PPS (Programmable Power Supply), while the latter is only PD certified.

Starting from 0%, and after 30 minutes of charging with the 25 W charger, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ shows a charge rate of 62%; this value is 64% with the 65 W charger. Same observation for the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 61% with the 25 W charger, 60% with the 45 W charger. The 65 W charger recharges 65% of the battery of the ‘Ultra in 30 minutes.

5 minutes gap when fully charged

The differences remain inconspicuous on a full charge. This takes 1 hour and 1 minute for the S22+ with the 45 W charger, 1 hour and 2 minutes with the 25 W charger; 59 minutes with the 45 W charger for the S22 Ultra, 1 hour and 4 minutes with the 25 W charger. Finally, the charging time drops to 1 hour and 2 minutes with the 65 W block.

Full charge time

On the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra product page, Samsung writes: “ The Galaxy S22 Ultra is compatible with 45W super fast charging. As soon as you plug it in, you’ll get enough battery in less time than it takes to say “.

In fact, for a full charge, the difference with that of 25 W is 5 minutes. Expressed as a percentage, this represents a difference of 8%. In short, unless you are someone in a hurry, you can a priori save the 50 euros of the 45 W charger to satisfy yourself with the 25 W one sold for 20 euros…
