As the Pixel 9 range prepares for its release and is said to be equipped with Oled screens designed by Samsung, Pixel 6 users are having a bad time. On Reddit and on the official Google forums, some Internet users encounter an error message when trying to reset their smartphone.

An error message then an unusable Pixel 6

When resetting the smartphone, a message that mentions “Unable to enable ext4 verity” and a file “tune2fs” missing appears. After this error, the Pixel 6 gets stuck in Android recovery mode, a boot loop that makes it unusable.

The bug is not limited to a specific model or software as user reports mention all Pixel 6s (Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a), regardless of the version of Android installed. It is therefore possible that a recent update or firmware could be the cause.

Another issue that many users are facing is that their smartphone is out of warranty. Google is offering expensive repairs and replacements by saying that it is a motherboard issue. Many people are expressing their anger and are saying that if the issue is software related, it should be covered by the company.

There is hope, however, as on the official Google forums, a product expert confirms that the issue has been escalated to the relevant team and is currently under investigation. No official solution and timeline have been shared yet.

Don’t reset your Pixel 6

The only solution, at the moment, if you own a Pixel 6? Do not reset your smartphone until further notice. If you have already done so, contact Google support or visit an authorized repair center. This is new bad publicity for Google’s first Tensor chip which has caused various bugs in the past. Particularly at the level of the fingerprint sensor or even autonomy and performance.
