Pixel 7: Google will improve the audio quality of TWS wireless headphones


The Pixel 7 series will be compatible with a new Bluetooth standard called Bluetooth LE Audio. The models expected this year, as well as the replacement for the Pixel 6a, are affected. One of the strengths of this new standard is the integration of a higher quality audio codec. Improved energy efficiency is also expected.

One of the most anticipated events of the fall is the launch of Pixels. Admittedly, in Europe, the market share of Pixels is very low. However, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have crystallized enough attention to reposition Google in the race. We cannot advise you too much to take a look at it again to refresh your memory (even if it is not easy to forget a design as disruptive as that of these Pixels).

This year, we are obviously expecting the successors to the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Google has already partially unveiled them in the spring. They are called Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. It now remains to wait for their formalization to know all the details of the technical sheet. Or at least, confirm them, since the rumors have largely taken advantage of the summer season to unveil them. One of these details is the version of the Bluetooth protocol compatible with the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro. There could be a pleasant surprise.

The Pixel 7, 7 Pro and 7a would be Bluetooth LE Audio compatible

According to our colleagues from 9to5Googlethe Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, not to mention the Pixel 7a expected early next year, should be the first Google smartphones to be compatible Bluetooth LE Audio. This is an evolution of Bluetooth which notably includes several new features for true wireless stereo headphones to improve the listening and interactivity experience. This version of the protocol notably includes support for the LC3 codec which greatly improves the audio quality with TWS headphones (thanks to an innovative technique of adapting the transfer rate according to the quality of the connection).

The Bluetooth LE Audio protocol offers other advantages. First, it is compatible Auracast, which allows the same audio signal to be broadcast to several pairs of headphones. Very handy for watching a movie together. Then, it reduces latency by broadcasting to both earphones and no longer to a single earphone which then retransmits part of the signal to its pair. Finally, this protocol is even more energy efficient. It’s a technology that will improve the daily life of those who use TWS earphones… provided that the earphones are also compatible!
