This functionality of Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro seems to want to prevent you from doing anything with your photo edits.
Last May, Google announced the arrival of Magic Editor within its Photos application, a new tool using the power of generative AI to make edits with ease. Freshly rolled out to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, this feature offers great possibilities, even if you have no expertise in photo editing.
But despite the extent of its capabilities, the tool offered by Google prohibits users from making changes to certain types of photos and documents.
Magic Editor: when Google wants to reinvent your photos
With Magic Editor, Google wants to make the world of photo editing accessible to as many people as possible using artificial intelligence. The American firm assures Google Photos users that it is possible to make complex edits without necessarily having professional-level editing skills.
According to Google’s statements, artificial intelligence allows you to “ make changes to specific parts of an image, such as the subject, sky, or background “. The tool also offers you the possibility of moving certain elements of your photo as you wish in order to improve the overall composition.
Full of promise, this functionality nevertheless (and fortunately) has some limitations. Indeed, it is not just any type of photo that will benefit from the retouching talents of Magic Editor, as was recently spotted by the site Android Authority.

Since the code of the latest version of Google Photos, our colleagues atAndroid Authority noticed that error messages were occurring during certain modification attempts. For example, if you try to edit identity documents, bank receipts, or documents containing personal information, Magic Editor will systematically prevent you from making any changes.
Furthermore, it seems that Magic Editor also refuses to modify faces and parts of the human body. What is enough to prevent the most malicious people from doing anything? Probably not. But this will at least prevent anyone from being able to easily falsify confidential documents.
