Pixel 8 could save your failed videos with this unique feature

According to the findings of “9to5Google”, the Mountain View giant is working on a “Video Unblur” function which would allow your captured videos to be much sharper after activating the option. This could be exclusive to future Pixel 8s.

At the end of 2022, Google impressed us after deploying the “Photo Unblur” feature, which can be translated as “Photo unblurred” in French. The idea is simple: from the Google Photos application, this option makes your blurry photos sharper thanks to the intelligent processing of the Tensor chip.

The Mountain View firm could simply duplicate this function… for videos. Anyway, that’s what I think I know. 9to5Google, who would have made a discovery in this direction. This same tool, but for videos, would thus have been discovered by the media, which was even able to activate it by force. On the other hand, the function does not yet appear to be functional.

How would the AI intervene on a video?

To see how “Video Unblur” – if that is its name – would act on slightly blurry videos, since the task is probably more complicated on moving and not static subjects. We imagine that the AI would intervene on the autofocus and the stabilization of the video a posteriori.

It could also be that this function is an exclusivity granted to Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, whose first official visuals are expected in May, at Google I / O 2023.

things to dig

After all, the “Magic Eraser” tool was indeed exclusive to the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro when they were released. Why not repeat this type of scheme with the Pixel 8, but with another feature? Although for now, 9to5Google clarifies that “Video Unblur” is not intrinsically linked to the Pixel series according to the lines of code analyzed.

The project is in any case under development and could be the subject of additional leaks in the coming months.
