In 2024, Google will launch its new range of Pixel 9 smartphones. And the American giant could take advantage of this to restore its credentials to the “Mini” format.
Indeed, there was a time when the smartphone was an accessory to “ human size », capable of being forgotten in a pocket. For several years, the trend has been towards terminals equipped with an XXL screen, and too bad for the compact aspect. At Google, we should (re)offer a smaller smartphone with the Pixel 9.
The return of “small” smartphones at Google
Older users may remember the excellent “Compact” smartphones from Sony Xperia, with small, powerful terminals. This is what should happen with the future Pixel 9, which would therefore be available in an XL version, with a large 6.8-inch screen, but also in a version with a 6.1-inch screen “only” .
For comparison, this is precisely the size of the OLED panel of an iPhone 15 Pro. In this way, those interested could benefit from a more compact Google Pixel 9, while enjoying the same performance as the XL model. Remember that the Google Pixel 8 has a 6.2-inch screen.
But the ones we took last January for the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 would actually be the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro!
Towards a Google Pixel 9 triplet?
Indeed, if the Pixel 9 Pro will undoubtedly be built around a 6.1-inch screen, with the added bonus of a revisited design (and in particular an iPhone 15-style metal band), Google would have the idea of launching also a Pixel 9 “ basic “.
The latter would have a 6-inch screen, but its technical capabilities would be reduced, including a photo module made up of only two sensors (and not three). For several generations, Google has been content to offer a standard version and a Pro version of its Pixels.
Thus, according to the latest reports fromOnLeaks, the Google Pixel 9 will therefore be available in three versions, with the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro XL as well as a standard Pixel 9. Enough to allow Google to offer a more affordable smartphone, with a price that will come (a priori) slot between that of the Pixel 9 Pro and the future Pixel 9a.
