The Pixel Fold, Google’s folding smartphone, has been causing a lot of ink to flow for several months: the first rumors mentioning it date back to March 2021. In November of the same year, several leakers suggested that the project be abandoned, or at all. minus one report. The smartphone has been pretty low-key throughout 2022, until finally, at the end of December, we discovered new renders of this Pixel Fold as well as a possible benchmark entry under the “Google Felix” cover. It is in this context that YouTuber Dave2D published the video below, titled About The Pixel Foldable.
A model in the absence of a real mobile
The author of the video reveals a plastic model of Google’s alleged folding smartphone. Dave2D does not specify its sources, however, the design is in line with the visuals published at the end of 2022.
It’s possible he got the dimensions of the device from an accessory maker since brands usually communicate them to them a bit before launches so they can offer cases as soon as the device comes out. ‘a device.
Anyway, unlike others, Dave2D at least has the distinction of having, in the absence of the real smartphone, something to hold in the hands – if only a piece of plastic.
Comparison with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and OPPO Find N2 Flip
The two – very real – smartphones used for the comparison are the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 and OPPO Find N2 Flip.
The video is relatively explicit and the embedded images give a good idea of the final object. However, two particularities should be noted. First, design-wise, the Pixel Fold appears to be closer to OPPO’s smartphone than Samsung’s when folded, with almost no space between the two screens. Second, from his mockup, Dave2D extrapolates fairly wide bezels, around 5mm, for the 7.67-inch interior screen.
For the moment, Google has still not formalized its folding smartphone. The company will do so at the Google I/O conference next May, according to several sources.
