Pixel War: Kameto, Zerator, Squeezie… French streamers resisted the Spanish invasion

the Reddit Place totally unleashed the internet at the beginning of the week. This subreddit, where everyone is allowed to place a pixel on an initially white page every 5 minutes (or 20 minutes if the user’s account has not been verified), is defined as a collaborative social experience allowing everyone to express themselves through the art of pixelation. “Place” was (re) set up this April 1, after 5 years of absence and its creators surely did not expect a real virtual war to be triggered.

Indeed, on the night of Saturday April 2 to Sunday April 3, the “Pixel War” broke out, opposing many streamers from all over the world, who fought with waves of pixels to defend their territory. Kameto, stars, ZeratoR and many other French-speaking streamers quickly found themselves alone against the whole world because, problem, the pixelated territory of France is too important. Yesterday, we gave you a summary of this explosive weekend. But while “Place” was originally scheduled to end on Monday April 4 at 4 p.m., this did not happen and hostilities continued into the evening. Back to the final showdown!

First attacks

During the day of Monday, April 4, the French virtual soldiers built, with pixels and using layers put in place by the streamers, the symbols of France. Between Zinedine Zidanethe rapper Nepal, Jinx, Thomas Pésquet, Ratatouillethe Crescentas well as the mythical Louvre, France was present on the reddit place! Too present even according to some international streamers like Ibai (Spain), xQc (Canada) or Mizkif (United States), who were quick to launch offensives against the French side.

The hostilities really started around 5:30 p.m., when Ibai tried to erase the symbols of France. According to him, Spain had no land on the reddit place and France too much. The first negotiations followed, and the Spanish offensive was stopped, before starting again weakly at 6:30 p.m.

However, thanks to the orders of General Kameto and his infallible technique of attacks punctuated by the birthday seasons of each, the army of Ibai was repelled.

Zidane in a bot

After drawing a figure peeing on the Eiffel Tower over the weekend, enemy armies realized too much insult : turn Zidane into a bot. Some streamers, mainly Ibai, have repeatedly accused French streamers of using bots to repel their offensives. In vocals with the Spanish streamer, Kameto and Locklear staunchly defended their honor and made it clear on many occasions that this was just the strength of their community. It wasn’t enough because around 9 p.m., enemy attackers tried to turn Zidane into a robot.

An offensive which, as you can see, has been bravely landed by the communities of all French-speaking streamers present at that time: Kameto, squeeze, ZeratoR, Amine, locklear, domingo, Anthony Danieland many others who, together, have collected more than 700,000 viewers ready to figure it out.

A disturbing proposal

After this attack on a national symbol, Kameto and Locklear went on vocals with Ibai and Mizkif in particular, who offered them an idea: “You would have to let us delete the triumphal arch at the very bottom left so that we can put the Windows viewport there”. It is true that at the very bottom of the reddit place was placed the Windows applications bar, it would have been rather logical to want to put the window that appears there when you click on the logo at the bottom left. This is not the case for Kameto, the opposing streamers would only like to gain ground.

Kameto resisted the verbal attacks from streamers, while keeping his composure and repeating that “we won’t go to sleep, you can attack us but we will defend until the end”. With masterclasses, Kameto defended the honor of French viewers, treated (wrongly) as bots.

At this moment, rumors were swirling that the reddit place was going to close at 6am, the time difference therefore did not favor French troops over those in America. Streamers around the world began to unite against the French side of the work and the attacks followed.

The final battle

Around 10:40 p.m. last Monday, the attacks were increasingly intense as the Spanish troops of Ibai were joined by those of the Quebec streamer xQc, who have once again tried to erase Zidane and replace him with a BTS logo, previously drawn by the Squeezie community, in another place on the map. xQc even attacked the Louvre, repeating “the museum will not return”.

But the museum is back! And the defense of French viewers has not weakened. Kameto, Antoine Daniel, Locklear and all the others either and as the negotiations progressed, none of them made any concessions.

The Spaniards cheated?

While Ibai has accused Kameto of cheating on numerous occasions, he has also himself been accused of having paid for a script automatically placing pixels. Although the accusations are officially denied and above all unfounded, some say they have found suspicious lines of code in the scripts of the Spanish community.

Ibai’s community responded by saying that these were just “legal” scripts on the reddit place, similar to those used by French streamers.

Little angel gone too soon

The reddit place was not closed at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, but a little after midnight, where all the pixels slowly started to turn white, eventually all disappearing. Shortly after, the moderators of the subreddit posted this heartbreaking message: “Place is finished”.

They went on to write: “Thank you to everyone who participated. Perhaps the real art was the friends we made along the way.” Although it was time for confrontation, it is important to remember thatit was a game more than anything and that although the discussions between the streamers of different nationalities were heated, they then made peace and the internet regained its calm.

Here is a screenshot of a reddit user, taken a few seconds before the pixels evaporate in which it is possible to see that, although some French symbols have disappeared, others are still present. The defense of the community was remarkable and it’s a great victory for the French Twitch!

During the first weekend of April 2022, hundreds of thousands of Internet users around the world chose to engage in a real virtual war with great pixel attacks and virtual drawings. This is called the “Pixel War”, or “Pixel War”, an already historic phenomenon.
