  • With the Pixel Watch 2, Google should make changes to the housing material.
  • Allegedly, aluminum is now to be used instead of stainless steel.
  • This makes the watch lighter, but also more prone to scratches.

Google’s Pixel Watch was a strong debut for many Pixel fans. Now there are first rumors about the next generation of the smartwatch. However, these might not excite everyone.

According to 9to5Google, Google is planning a major change to the case. While the first Pixel Watch used stainless steel, the Pixel Watch 2 should now use aluminum. Of course, this has a significant impact on weight. The next generation should only weigh 26 grams without the strap, the Pixel Watch 1 is 36 grams.

However, aluminum has one major disadvantage compared to stainless steel: it is much more sensitive to bumps and scratches. So it would certainly be a disappointing downgrade for many users. It is possible that the watch would look less attractive much faster, the resale value would then be significantly lower.

The manufacturer may make this compromise in order to strengthen the fitness area. Lighter devices are often more popular here. The lower weight could also benefit sleep tracking.
