Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom – We know the length of the film… and it’s a record


The Planet of the Apes returns to cinemas in May with a film which promises to explore a new facet of its universe and to keep spectators glued to their seats for a long time. Indeed, we now know how long the feature film lasts, and it is quite simply the longest in the saga.

The longest in the saga

The world of The Planet of the Apes has not finished renewing itself. With The new kingdomthe franchise, born from the science fiction novel by French author Pierre Boulle published in 1963, will indeed explore a new era, several generations after the reign of Caesar.

The latter was the highly intelligent monkey at the heart of the previous trilogy The Planet of the Apesincluding the first opus, subtitled The origins and released in 2011, lasted 105 minutes. The following (The confrontation in 2014), had a duration of 130 minutes while the last one, Supremacy (released in 2017), lasted 140 minutes.

We now know, via information relayed by Colliderthat Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom clocks in at 145 minutes, or 2 hours and 25 minutes. A generous duration, which suggests an ambitious new story, with time to develop it.

Back to the future

While the first trilogy focused on the primates’ revolt against humans and their rise to power, The new kingdom opens a new chapter. It takes place 300 years in the future, when apes control the planet and humans have regressed to the wild.

The story of the film follows Noa (Owen Teague), a young monkey who befriends a young girl named Mae (Freya Allan, seen in the series The Witcher). He will undertake a perilous journey that will lead him to question everything he knows about the past and to make choices that will define the future of apes and humans.

Planet of the Apes: The New Kingdom should open the door to other films to form a new trilogy. In any case, this is what its director, Wes Ball (the saga The labyrinth), but everything will obviously depend on the performance of the feature film at the box office. Response in cinemas from May 8.
