Plans from FC Bayern and Munich
Allianz Arena could soon be located on “Franz-Beckenbauer-Allee”.

Will FC Bayern fans soon be coming to the stadium via “Franz-Beckenbauer-Allee”? Such ideas are being discussed between the club and the city of Munich. Further plans are moving forward in honor of the late football emperor.

FC Bayern has apparently fleshed out its plans to commemorate the late football emperor Franz Beckenbauer. According to CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen, a monument for Beckenbauer in front of the Allianz Arena next to that for iconic striker Gerd Müller and the renaming of a street are being considered.

“The curve is planning the same thing as Gerd Müller. If you look at the monument in honor of Gerd on the esplanade in front of the Allianz Arena: Franz fits in well there,” the “Münchner Merkur”/”tz” quoted a Dreesen statement from a fan club visit in Westerheim.

Even with “Bomber” Müller, the initiative for the monument came from Munich supporters. Dreesen also expressly praised this in the Beckenbauer case. In September last year, the former world-class striker was honored with a bronze statue in Müller’s unique jubilant pose on the grounds of the Munich stadium. Club icon Müller died on August 15, 2021, and Beckenbauer on January 7 of this year.

Dreesen also spoke about the club’s mind games. There are discussions with the city about renaming Werner-Heisenberg-Allee, where the Allianz Arena is located. “The Allianz Arena at Franz-Beckenbauer-Allee No. 5 – that would be sensational,” said Dreesen. Munich Mayor Dieter Reiter had already reported in the days after Beckenbauer’s death on January 7th about the plan to name a street in the Bavarian capital after the Munich native.

However, the plans still have to overcome an important hurdle before they can be implemented. Dreesen wants to hear their ideas at a meeting between Beckenbauer’s old companions and his widow Heidi on February 1st. If she agrees, the plans of Bayern and the fans could be put into practice.

After the death of the world champion as a player and as a coach, there were various considerations to keep his memory alive. Former national coach Berti Vogts, for example, suggested renaming the DFB Cup to the Franz Beckenbauer Cup. Former Bayern coach Ottmar Hitzfeld in turn suggested a Franz Beckenbauer Arena in Munich.
