From virtual to real, there is only one step to jump in South Korea. From March 21 to 25, it is possible to participate in the reforestation of the forest near the town of Andong.

By doubling the number of trees planted in the metaverse, the Korean government wants to translate a new form of involvement in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

One of the worst fires in South Korea’s history

The forest near Angong, a city of 150,000 inhabitants in the heart of South Korea, was the victim in 2020 of the fourth most devastating fire recorded in South Korea. And, in addition to the $57 million in damage caused, reforestation is a problem the government is looking into.

Particularly launched in the metaverse, South Korea is currently using it to promote the reforestation of the Angong forest. Thus, as part of a partnership with Dunamu, a company that notably manages the Upbit crypto-currency exchange platform, 5,000 participants can take part in this action. To do this, a virtual tree must be planted on a platform, resulting in the planting of two real trees by the Korean Forest Service.

The event, which ends on March 25, accepts 1000 participants per day. Finally, those who participate also receive a voucher to buy a seedling at a local market. In short, a 100% winning commitment.
