PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Plastic Omnium announced on Wednesday the construction in Compiègne of a hydrogen tank manufacturing plant which will be the largest in Europe. The automotive supplier specified that this future site would have a production capacity of 80,000 tanks per year and would produce its first hydrogen tanks by 2025.
The creation of this new plant and the development of the hydrogen activity in France should eventually represent around 200 jobs at Plastic Omnium, added the group.
This announcement took place during the visit by the Prime Minister, Elisabeth Borne, of the research and development center
In parallel with the creation of a new factory, the automotive supplier also announced on Wednesday the signing of two contracts, qualified as “major”, with the car manufacturer Stellantis and HYVIA, a joint venture equally owned by the car manufacturer Renault and Plug, a specialist in turnkey solutions in the field of hydrogen and fuel cells.
These contracts relate to the design and production, at the future Compiègne site, of 700-bar hydrogen tank modules that will equip utility vehicles. The financial amounts involved were not disclosed by Plastic Omnium.
“These announcements are a major step in our ambition to become the world leader in hydrogen mobility by 2030,” commented Laurent Favre, CEO of Plastic Omnium, quoted in a press release.
