A special pudding recipe is to be designed for the Queen’s platinum anniversary. Duchess Camilla will choose the winner in May.
The celebrations for the platinum throne jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II (96) will not take place until June. However, a competition has already started in January: an anniversary pudding recipe is being sought that celebrates the reign of the Queen. More details about the contest have now been announced: The winner will be chosen by Duchess Camilla (74) on a TV show.
One-hour TV special about the pudding contest
BBC One announced on Friday evening, that the competition will be featured in the hour-long TV special “The Jubilee Pudding: 70 Years in the Baking” on May 12. Since January 10, British citizens aged eight and over have been able to submit their recipes for the “platinum pudding”. Almost 5,000 recipes came together. A jury of experts, headed by British cookbook author Dame Mary Berry (87), chose the five best.
The five finalists will now appear in the TV special in May. The ultimate goal is to find an “original and celebratory cake, tart or pudding worthy of the Queen,” BBC One said. The recipe will “go down in history”. Duchess Camilla is given a special honour: she is allowed to announce the winner together with Dame Mary Berry.
Pudding is cooked at anniversary celebrations
In a post on Prince Charles (73) and Duchess Camilla’s official Instagram account the two women can be seen during the shooting, among other things they are sitting at a set coffee table. Camilla and Dame Mary Berry “teamed up” for the competition, the post reads. “On the anniversary weekend, the winning recipe will be replicated across the country at street festivals, family celebrations and community gatherings – as a platinum pudding, the centerpiece of the celebrations.”
The culmination of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be the days of June 2-5. Plans include street parties and a concert featuring some of the world’s biggest entertainment stars.
