Starfield obviously doesn’t support VR. At least officially. A German YouTuber showed that it was, however, possible to make the game work in virtual reality with a well-thought-out trick.

The game Starfield offers a highly immersive adventure for those who get caught up in the sci-fi universe created by the Bethesda studio. Between a lore and a background very solid, activities and quests galore, the possibility of customizing your ships (like the Batwing designed by this very patient Redditor) or even building your base, everything is done to immerse players in a rather coherent world. One feature that some may miss, however, is the game’s native VR support. A German videographer, Thomas Poersch, from the VoodooDE VR channel, shows that it is still possible to enjoy the game with a headset. VR.

A rather simple tip… but it pays off

Everything is very well explained in the video tutorial that Thomas released five days ago, which you can watch at the bottom of the article. In summary, you will need:

  • Acquire the vorPX software, which will allow you to extend VR support to Starfield. Count on 35.99 euros for this one (link in the sources of this article);
  • configure it correctly so that it supports the game, Thomas explains everything in detail in his video;
  • have a compatible VR headset, in this case, the Meta Quest 2.

By following the video step by step and scrupulously respecting the vorPX settings, particularly the integration of the game profile into the software, everything should work.

A convincing, but imperfect result

Since this is an alternative method, you should obviously not expect a perfect result on screen. A game that was not developed for use in VR will never be perfectly optimized for this format. But all the same, the experience remains completely playable. It is possible to look wherever you want and your avatar will follow, but if you move, the game will not take it into account. You will therefore have to play seated. Or at least still.

Even if the Meta Quest 2 controllers are compatible, you should not expect to have a tracking of your movements. You will have to play in a classic way. At the menu level, however, the use of the keyboard is obligatory. Some subtle adjustments must also be considered for everything to work, such as deactivating dynamic resolution in the graphics settings.

For an unofficial method, it must be admitted that the result that Thomas shows on screen is very convincing, even if it will be necessary to deal with some flaws. The risk of motion sickness however, threatens certain players, an effect due to the gap between what the body feels and what the eyes perceive.

Starfield

  • Pure Bethesda…
  • Successful main story
  • Very well seen exploration

If you expect too much, you’re bound to be disappointed. No, Starfield is not a fun revolution and it will not be as significant as Red Dead Redemption 2, the fault of gameplay inaccuracies and questionable design choices. The impossibility of using any means of transport or the relative sluggishness of the combat are among the most notable.

Of course, the notion of “rapid travel” and, more generally, the management of space transport pose a real problem. Starfield is also not the most accomplished game on a strictly technical level with its dated graphics engine and its numerous small loading screens. Finally, it is the general ergonomics of a user interface coming out of a fairly twisted mind that we regret.

We regret it, certainly, but not to the point of spoiling the joys of exploration. Less dense, but also more accessible than that of No Man’s Sky, this makes you want to go ever further and it is difficult to take off from a planet without a “complete analyst”. The multiple factions and their missions also help to keep us from getting lost even though the content is truly phenomenal.

All this to say that the Bethesda recipe still works just as well, especially since it is renewed here by the space theme, enough to convince some hesitant players. Those who resist the Bethesda style will not revise their judgment. On the other hand, this Starfield is undoubtedly the best gateway to the American studio’s games. We’re going back!
