Play Store: how Google wants to protect personal data


Users are increasingly careful about their options for deleting and modifying their personal data. Google intends to move in this direction and is starting to highlight applications that allow the user to delete their account themselves. Applications with this feature will receive the “user account deletion possible” badge in the list of search results on the Play Store.

When Google tracks down uncooperative developers

This new feature follows the introduction last year by Google of a new rule to developers: if an application requires creating an account to be used, then it is imperative to allow the deletion of this account in the application and from an Internet browser. Google then announced the creation of this badge, which now comes into force.

Since December 2023, Google has encouraged developers to include this information in the settings of their application(s). The web giant indicates in particular that information not brought into compliance after May 31, 2024 will result in the removal of the applications concerned from the Play Store. The arrival of this new possible account deletion badge by Google thus confirms this intention on the part of the Californian firm.
