players’ agent Pini Zahavi indicted in Belgium

The Israeli Pini Zahavi, one of the most famous and influential football players’ agents, has been indicted by the Brussels investigating judge Michel Claise for forgery, use of forgery, fraud and money laundering in the part of the Mouscron football club case.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed, Friday 1er October, the information reported by the newspapers The Last Hour / Sports and By Standaard.

This indictment is part of an investigation into the Mouscron club. According to RTBF (Belgian French-speaking Radio Television), the latter was himself indicted at the end of August as a legal person for forgery, use of forgery and fraud.

The club, which had been the subject of searches by the federal judicial police of Mons-Tournai in mid-November 2018, is suspected of having provided false documents in order to obtain its license.

If Pini Zahavi (77 years old) is targeted by the Belgian justice, it is because the latter suspects him of having continued to play an active role at the head of the Mouscron club until 2020, while the regulations prohibited.

The players ‘agent bought the club in 2015 (along with another agent, Fali Ramadani), but regulations then prohibited the management of a club by a players’ agent exercising a “Significant influence”.

Pini Zahavi then sold the club in 2017 for a few euros to his nephew Adar Zahavi and to a Maltese investment fund. In 2020, the club had been sold to Gérard Lopez, the current owner

Belgian justice is also looking for traces of money laundering linked to transfers of players to the club.
