Playoff quarter-finals, game 5 – successful reaction: Zug leads the series again thanks to a 6:2 – sports

Almost 25 minutes had been played when Marc Michaelis increased the score to 4-0 for the EVZ. It was a turbulent minute of the game: Lino Martschini had scored to make it 3-0, 22 seconds later Thierry Bader, as a face-off player, played the puck with his hand, which resulted in a two-minute penalty. Michaelis’ goal came just another 9 seconds later.

However, SCB coach Jussi Tapola decided not to make another goalkeeper change, and Adam Reideborn was allowed to continue playing. He only came on as a substitute for Philip Wüthrich after Fabrice Herzog made it 2-0. Tapola wanted to make a statement before the first break and took Wüthrich off the ice in the 18th minute.

Zugers shine in the majority

In the middle third, Reideborn conceded the two goals mentioned above. In the third period, however, it didn’t take long before the Swedish goalkeeper had to reach behind himself again in the SCB’s service: Jan Kovar scored his first playoff goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Like Michaelis, he scored in the majority.

That’s not all: Andreas Wingerli provoked Bader’s own goal shortly before the end (57′) when the EVZ played with one more man. The 6:2 was the final point.

In this game, EV Zug doubled its number of power play goals in the playoffs to 6. In qualifying, the Zug team had the weakest power play in the entire league (15.44% success rate), in the playoffs only Bern and Biel were more inefficient with the majority – until Monday .

Genoni misses shutout

EVZ goalie Leonardo Genoni also failed to keep his goal clean in the 5th playoff game this season. The Zugers could thank him that the game had such a clear outcome: after two thirds played, the shooting ratio from the Zugers’ perspective was 22:24.

In the final third, Genoni made a small mistake when he couldn’t catch a puck. Dario Kummer thanked him and scored via both posts. Genoni had to reach behind himself one more time: Tristan Scherwey pulled ahead in the 55th minute and gave him no chance with a powerful high corner shot.

Zug goal machine

EVZ scored 21 goals in the first 5 games of this series. No less than 10 more than the SCB. Nevertheless, Zug lost two games with a difference of one goal each. If Zug’s goal machine runs at full speed again on Wednesday, the EVZ can secure a place in the semi-finals with a win in Bern.
