Playoff semi-final, game 2 – And then came Andrighetto: ZSC gets the break in Zug – Sport

  • The ZSC Lions win game 2 of the playoff semi-finals at EV Zug 1-0 and make it 2-0 in the series.
  • Sven Andrighetto scored the only goal of the game, shortly after the EVZ survived a 4-minute shortfall without any damage.
  • In the other semi-final, Lausanne and Freiburg have to go into extra time.

The Zug home fans must have had something bad in store for them in the 50th minute: when the score was 0-0, Andreas Eder received a 2+2 minute penalty for a high stick. Memories of Game 1 were awakened when the ZSC Lions laid 3 eggs in EV Zug’s nest in a 5-minute advantage on Easter Monday. But the EVZ seemed to have conscientiously done its homework when it came to box play. The Zugers acted defiantly and gave the ZSC hardly any space. On the contrary: Sven Senteler came closer to a shorthander than the Lions to the opening goal when they were outnumbered by 4 minutes.

… then Andrighetto comes

The EVZ’s joy about this only lasted for a short time, the efforts took their toll: 14 seconds after Eder returned from the cooler, Sven Andrighetto refueled in front of the goal. After a confusing situation in the slot, it was Andrighetto who pushed the disc into the net with his first goal in the current playoffs (with 8 assists).

Zurich’s 41st goal was the first that the strong Leonardo Genoni was no longer able to handle. It stayed at this one goal, also because Zug’s Marc Michaelis, like before the 0-1 score, sinned in the finish. The ZSC managed the break to take a 2-0 lead in the semi-final series.

The fact that there was zero on both sides for a long time should not obscure the attractiveness of what is shown. The line around Rudolfs Balcers, Andrighetto and Denis Malgin always created a goal threat. But Genoni in the EVZ box presented himself in playoff form. He made 20 saves in the middle third alone. While the first section was already characterized by high tempo, both teams launched the second 20 minutes like fire brigades. Once again there were no goals, despite a total of 5 small penalties in the middle third. There were many signs pointing to an extension. But then came Andrighetto.
