Since yesterday, several players’ PlayStation Network accounts have been permanently suspended… for no apparent reason.

Most old experienced still remember, at the end of 2006, Sony launched a certain PlayStation Network on its new PlayStation 3. For the Japanese giant, it was then a question of offering a brand new online service, giving access to multiplayer ( so free!), but also to the PlayStation Store download store, without forgetting other advantages of all kinds. An obviously response to Microsoft’s Xbox Live, launched in 2002.

A bug for the PlayStation Network?

Over the years, Sony has obviously refined its PlayStation Network formula, resulting in a brand new PS Plus formula launched at the end of 2023, with three offers now available, namely Essential, Extra and Premium. In recent days, the service seems to have suffered from a surprising bug, with accounts banned without the slightest reason.

This is in fact what many PlayStation Network subscribers are raising, who indicate that they have been unable to connect to their account since the beginning of the week, the latter having been permanently suspended.

Affected users may thus discover the following message: “ This account is permanently suspended from PlayStation Network due to violations of the PlayStation Network Terms of Service and User Agreements “. For the latter, it is therefore impossible to connect to their account and fully use the features of their PlayStation console.

Disastrous consequences for players

For players, the inability to log into a PS Network account results in various problems. The latter are notably unable to play online, and cannot access the PS Store either.

Worse yet, digital games purchased from a PlayStation Network account are assigned to that account. If the account disappears, the games in question then become completely unusable. And too bad for this Alan Wake 2 recently purchased at full price, the game being only offered in dematerialized format.

Currently, PlayStation has not made any comments regarding the issue. Some users reported having recovered their account (without the slightest explanation) after a few hours, while others still do not have access to theirs. For some, it is a “ reminder that you paid a lot for temporary access to your games, since this access can be revoked, without appeal, at Sony’s discretion “.

On a similar note, as of December 31, due to licensing agreements with content providers, Sony will no longer allow users to watch Discovery TV content purchased by users, and the content in question will be removed from their library.

PlayStation Plus

  • Very complete catalog of PS4 and PS5 games
  • Perfectly integrated and stable Cloud Gaming
  • The integration of trophies in certain PS One games

Depending on the offer selected, PlayStation Plus may turn out to be good or just OK. The Premium formula notably lacks consistency where the Extra version offers the best value for money. The fact remains that despite slight problems (especially on PC), the service delivers a good experience on the Cloud and on emulation.
